WEBB- A pressure crack is being blamed by authorities for causing a pair of snowmobile accidents over the weekend in the Western Adirondacks.
It was right around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, January 28 when New York State Forest Ranger Lee caught some radio chatter via Herkimer County 9-1-1 regarding a pair of snowmobile accidents on Stillwater Reservoir, town of Webb.
Ranger Lee responded and arrived about ten-minutes later.
Two snowmobile victims, a 53-year-old person and a 14-year-old teen, both from Pennsylvania, were located at the Stillwater Restaurant, the DEC said.
It’s reported that the 53-year-old, who appeared to be suffering from a hand injury and abdominal pain, had no recollection of the accident, nor could they remember how they got to the restaurant.
The 14-year-old was reportedly suffering from chest pain and was having difficulty breathing.
Forest Rangers Bills and Stone arrived on-scene to assist. The teen was airlifted to a hospital via Mercy Flight, while the other victim was taken to the hospital via Old Forge Ambulance.
Officials say the accidents were caused by a pressure crack that formed where the trail crosses the lake.
