Former Boonville man indicted by grand jury on five felony counts for allegedly subjecting female child to sexual contact

BOONVILLE- A local resident in the North Country is faced with several felony charges for allegedly subjecting a child to sexual contact.

Robert Houghton, 54, of West Carthage, NY and formerly from Boonville, NY was arrested on Monday via a Superior Court Warrant of Arrest.

Thanks to an indictment handed up by an Oneida County Grand Jury, Robert Houghton is formally charged with two felony counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, along with one felony count each of rape in the first-degree; criminal sex act in the first-degree and sex abuse in the first-degree.

Members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office began investigating complaints last February, where it was eventually discovered that Robert Houghton allegedly had subjected a female child at a Boonville, NY residence.

Police said Robert Houghton was 53 when the investigation began. It’s reported the victim was under the age of 11.

He was taken into police custody in West Carthage without any incident.

Following an arraignment, Robert Houghton was remanded to the County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.

An Order of Protection was issued on behalf of the victim, who has been offered services through the Child Advocacy Center.
