Former Marcy prison guard accused of murder charge connected to fatal beating of Robert Brooks takes plea deal for manslaughter; is expected to serve 15-year sentence

ONEIDA COUNTY- Christopher Walrath was one of six former prison guards accused of second-degree murder in the beating death of Robert Brooks, the inmate from Marcy Correctional Facility who died last December.

On Monday, he appeared in state court in Utica, NY and accepted a plea deal, according to the latest reports from the Associated Press and WKTV.

While exiting from the hearing, Walrath and his attorney did not stop and give comment to members of the press.

The deal calls for a 15-year sentence behind bars. According to reports, an additional three employees connected to the incident have also taken plea deals.

The whole beating of Robert Brooks was captured on body worn camera devices.

The incident occurred while Brooks was handcuffed, the footage released by New York Attorney General Letitia James, showed.
