A former New York State Correction Officer from Lewis County was sentenced to probation after submitting forged medical documentation to obtain sick leave benefits from the state.

According to the office of New York State Inspector General Lucy Lang, Stephanie Saber, 29, was recently sentenced in Seneca County Court to five years of felony probation.

The Inspector General’s Investigation, which was prompted by a referral from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), revealed that Saber, who was employed as a correction officer at Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus, NY, had submitted thirteen false medical notes to justify absences between December 2021 and July 2022.

Upon questioning by OIG investigators, Saber admitted that she had created fake notes purporting to be from legitimate medical practitioners to excuse prior absence from work.

Saber was terminated from DOCCS during the investigation and plead guilty in court back in November to a felony offense of Offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.
