New York State has announced its Free Fishing Days for 2024.
During a free fishing day or weekend, fishing license requirements for freshwater fishing in state waters are not required. “Free Fishing Days are spread out throughout the year to give anglers a chance to enjoy freshwater fishing in various climates,” said DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos.
“It is the perfect time for families and friends to take advantage of the State’s plentiful fishing opportunities and learn or re-refresh a recreational hobby without the traditional fees.”
The first pair of free fishing days this year is aimed for Presidents’ Day Weekend, which is coming up February 17 and 18. The next free fishing weekend will be June 29 and 30.
A free fishing day will be observed on September 28, which is National Hunting and Fishing Day and finally, the last free fishing day for New York State during 2024 will be November 11, Veterans Day.
Keep in mind: although the license requirement is waived for a free fishing day or weekend, all other DEC regulations still apply.
As a reminder, anglers over the age of 16 fishing outside of the designated free fishing days are required to have a license.
