From beach girl to Dairy Princess: Evelyn Farese shares her journey to agriculture
LOWVILLE- From a beach girl to agriculture and dairy advocate, Evelyn Farese is now your 2023 Lewis County Dairy Princess.
"Being the Lewis County Dairy Princess is definitely something that is a great experience," Farese told us.
She originally is from the coastal area of New Jersey, but has spent many weekends and vacations throughout her childhood here at her family camp on Tug Hill.
Evelyn and her family enjoyed the North Country area so much, especially snowmobiling, they decided to relocate and anchor in the Brantingham, NY area.
Evelyn will be a Junior at South Lewis Central School this fall. Being what she referred herself as a 'beach girl,' Farese says her original hometown didn't offer the agricultural opportunities that the North Country can.
It all started when she began playing soccer for the Falcons of South Lewis. "Our former Dairy Ambassador Megan Klossner actually after practice one day said 'You're coming to pick tomatoes with me," Farese explained.

"And being that beach girl that I was at the time I was like 'Tomatoes? We are at school?' And we went and picked tomatoes for the FFA and that is where it all started."
Since being welcomed in to a new group of friends, Farese has now branched out to showing dairy cattle, while also remaining very active in the South Lewis FFA Chapter and Lewis County 4-H.
When it comes to her favorite part about being Lewis County Dairy Princess, Farese says she loves to visit the younger kids in school and share the importance of dairy farmers, agriculture and dairy as part of your daily diet.
Princess Farese and her entire court will be present during the 202nd Lewis County Fair - July 18 through July 22.
