ALBANY, NY- For the fourth time, New York’s fiscal year 2024 state budget deadline has been extended.

The legislature was supposed to reach an agreement come Thursday after the third extension, but once again, no deal was reached. "With another state budget extender passed, we have to start thinking about the ramifications of so many delays,” said Assemblyman Robert Smullen (Mohawk Valley and Adirondacks).

The fourth deadline is now Monday, April 24.

“In the past few weeks, we've accomplished nothing except ensuring the state budget's late delivery, and now funding will continue to be delayed for agricultural business services, school aid, unemployment insurance benefits and more. Enough is enough—it's time to finalize this state budget," Smullen added.

The $227 billion plan was supposed to be approved by April 1.

Lawmakers and Governor Kathy Hochul have been going toe-to-toe over housing initiatives and further adjustments to bail reform.
