WASHINGTON, D.C. – A bipartisan deal over security at the southern border with Mexico remains frequent in the national headlines, while New York Governor Kathy Hochul and North Country Congresswoman Elise Stefanik have been tossing insults back-and-forth over who is responsible and what should be done to manage what has been referred to numerous times as a migrant crisis.

“Kathy Hochul has a duty to every New Yorker to ensure their safety and security and right now she is miserably failing them,” Stefanik claimed in a statement released late last month.

Her full remark below:

“Far Left Kathy Hochul has openly admitted that New York taxpayers cannot afford to continue subsidizing the illegal immigrants pouring in through our borders because of Joe Biden’s disastrous open border policies. She has the opportunity here and now to stand with Governor Greg Abbott as he works tirelessly to secure Texas’s border and secure our country from this invasion Joe Biden has unforgivably encouraged,” said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. “Kathy Hochul has a duty to every New Yorker to ensure their safety and security and right now she is miserably failing them.”

Penned on January 26, Stefanik wrote a scathing letter to Governor Hochul’s office, where she blamed Joe Biden’s policies and noted that there have apparently been over 8 million illegal migrant crossings since the President took office.

The letter was signed by 9 Representatives, including Claudia Tenney and Brandon Williams.

However in response, Governor Hochul’s office fired back with a message penned on February 4 via the Director of State Operations, Kathryn Garcia.

In the Governor’s response, the House GOP is accused of doing nothing to help the national crisis. Furthermore, the message calls out Stefanik’s office for apparently “waiting until this past week to even reach out to our Administration and express your concerns.”

To date, Governor Hochul’s Office has invested nearly $2 billion in state funds to help manage the crisis, according to the letter sent in response to Stefanik.

According to what’s in the proposed Fiscal Year 20205 State Budget, the Governor’s Office is ready to spend more on the migrant crisis, another $2.5 billion, to which several North Country lawmakers have expressed their disagreement over.

It’s reported that Stefanik has joined in with other colleagues in not supporting a border bill that’s being hashed out in the U.S. Senate.

According to Governor’s Hochul’s letter, President Biden has publically made clear how he supports the Senate’s approach and if passed and signed into law, Garcia points out that Congress could grant authority to the President to shut the southern border down completely.
