WASHINGTON, D.C. - Securing expedited work authorization for incoming asylum seekers is the only way to help migrants become self-sustaining.

That’s what Governor Kathy Hochul says, following a meeting recently at the White House with the Biden Administration. “I am especially pleased that the federal government has agreed to provide personnel, data, and resources to identify the thousands of individuals in New York who are already eligible, but have not yet applied, for work authorization,” the Governor said.

“I am grateful to the White House for agreeing to continue these productive discussions and strengthening the partnership at all levels of government to respond to this crisis.”

During the meeting, which Hochul referred to as “productive,” officials hashed out possible long-term actions to better address and eventually terminate the migration crisis.
