Grand Jury to soon begin examination of evidence related to death of Mid-State inmate

UTICA- An Oneida County Grand Jury is expected to begin reviewing evidence this week that is related to the death of a Mid-State Correctional Facility inmate.

This latest update is according to reports from WKTV.

As previously reported, Messiah Nantwi, 22, passed away on March 1 at Wynn Hospital after being transferred there from the prison facility.

In the wake of the incident, which was described as “extremely disturbing” by Governor Hochul, 15 staff members were immediately placed on administrative leave as the investigation commenced.

Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick was appointed via the New York Attorney General’s Office to take charge of the case as the special prosecutor.
