ALBANY, NY- Making improvements to bail reform, plans to make childcare more affordable and goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are all among the many points Governor Hochul plans to address in this legislative session.

She delivered the 2023 State of the State Address this week, drawing a response from lawmakers statewide, including our Senator Joe Griffo (R-C-Rome).

“While I am pleased that the governor has proposed addressing the flawed changes made to the state's bail law and providing more support for our neglected mental health system, I question if she will actually push for rather than merely propose the common-sense changes that need to be made to address the issues affecting our state,” Griffo said.

During her address, Governor Hochul did mention that bail reform still needs adjusting, despite continuing cries from legislators and law enforcement officials for it to be scrapped all together.

In addition, the Governor also acknowledged the state’s chronic outward migration issue, which has been a blemish lawmakers have been sounding the alarm over for quite some time.

"If New Yorkers don’t feel safe in our communities, if they can’t afford to buy a home or pay the rent, then the dream stays out of reach," Hochul said.

In his response, Griffo seems to agree: “People and families continue to flee the state because they can't afford to live here, they don't feel safe, and they don't feel there is opportunity here. Businesses are being crushed by stifling regulations.”

Stay tuned, Griffo and other North Country Lawmakers will join the airwaves and share the latest session updates.
