
BOONVILLE- The Village Police Department is warning folks throughout the North Country to beware of this latest scam below.

According to officials, residents here and from afar have been complaining lately about phony court summonses that are sent via text, email and even mail parcel in select cases.
Officials advise that legitimate entities will generally contact someone with a hand mailed letter regarding any outstanding tolls, tickets and etc.
With that said, the Boonville Police and other local figures warn that there is a rising trend of phony court summonses and other scams being sent out physically in the mail.
As usual, when you receive a suspicious email, text or parcel in the mail, officials strongly suggest never clicking on any links or scanning any QR codes that may be provided.
It is very usual for scammers to try and create a sense of urgency by threatening deadlines and consequences if no action is taken.
If you are unsure about a text, email or letter in the mail, officials encourage that you look up and contact the agency directly.
