ONEIDA COUNTY- The Central New York area has witnessed its second fatal fire this month.
On Christmas Eve, emergency responders in the Verona, NY area were dispatched to 5619 Main Street for a reported structure fire.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, this was a fully involved residential fire. Initially, emergency responders learned there was a person still inside.
Unfortunately, firefighters located a deceased victim once the flames were extinguished. Investigators have positively identified the victim as Beverly A. Fehr, 74, who was the sole resident of the property.
For now, the cause of this blaze remains under investigation.
Earlier this month, firefighters battled an apartment complex blaze in the city of Rome, NY that resulted in two fatalities.
Local emergency officials have gone on to address this latest spike in fires that have occurred since the beginning of the month, stressing the importance of ensuring everyone has their heating systems cleaned and inspected.
