Lowville FD Fire November 15 2025

LOWVILLE- Firefighters managed to contain a residential fire over the weekend.

It was shortly before 3:00 a.m. Saturday when Lowville Fire Department was called out to a working structure fire at 7849 Ridge Road.

Mutual aid was received thanks to Castorland and New Bremen Fire Departments.

When all was said and done, it took firefighters about an hour to knock the flames down. Thanks to a successful interior attack, most of the fire damage was contained to a storage room and part of the attic above.

There was also smoke and water damage throughout the house, but Lowville Fire Chief, Joe Austin, says the home should be salvageable after some cleaning and repairs, going on to note that the structural supports went undamaged.

The structure is owned by Zachary and Larissa Stracener.

At first, everyone in the house and a pet dog were accounted for, but there were two family cats that were missing. Fortunately, however, both cats were found and believed to be in good health when reunited with their family.

At press time, firefighters determined the blaze sparked because of a plastic tote that was sitting too close to a bucket of ashes and the chimney.

The flames managed to spread to a wood pile that was also stacked in the same room.

Members from the Sheriff’s Office, State police, Search & Rescue, Lowville Fire Auxiliary and National Grid all assisted.
