BOONVILLE- A new team, a new logo, a fresh start. Summertime baseball action is coming back to Boonville once again, featuring the Boonville Lumberjacks.
Collegiate baseball first arrived to Boonville over a decade ago via the Adirondack Trailblazers. The team was originally in the NYCBL before transitioning to the PGCBL.
The team ceased play in 2020 amidst COVID and couldn't quite get things underway for 2021.
Last-year. a few sudden shake-ups left the whole season in jeopardy about a month before the first pitch was thrown. The league was able to step in and save the season, but it seemed very uncertain if there would be a collegiate baseball team ever again in Boonville.
However, after the PGCBL approached Butch Russo and Peter Faughnan, the former owners of the Utica Brewers, a new, re-branded team was born for baseball fans in Boonville and beyond.
"When we operated and owned the Utica Brewers, our goal was to have a family-themed baseball organization," Faughnan told us. He now serves as Lumberjacks General Manager.
As the team looks forward to a new beginning this summer, they are also recruiting sponsorships. "We don't go after a home-run, no pun intended, for these big dollar signs," Faughnan added. "We try to make just enough to operate this ball club. That has always been our number one goal."
