LOWVILLE- Lewis County has three potential sites that would ultimately be utilized as a local homeless center.
As of this report, we have been told that a county owned lot, located on Stowe Street, is currently the top prospect. The other two potential locations include the Old Andover House and the former Glenfield Elementary School.
Officials say the Stowe Street site would be ideal, due to its proximity with the Department of Social Services. "The project that we are looking at is homelessness and it is also fro low-income housing of individuals who do need supportive housing," said District Two Legislator Lisa Virkler.
"Homelessness in Lewis County is more people who stay with different friends and family, crash on couches until they have exhausted all of their possibilities."
Right now, county officials are ball-parking a $13-million price to construct such a project, including funding from grants and state aid.
