ALBANY, NY- Kathy Hochul is now the 57th Governor of the Empire State. She took the oath of office Sunday and delivered her inaugural address.
"New York stands for something extraordinary: Opportunity and ambition, compassion and tolerance, and the most fascinating people and places. Ultimately, a place where millions can come to, to build their lives, their families, live a good life,β she said while delivering her address.
βAnd that's why I'm energized. I'm enthusiastic to be in this arena, no matter what comes our way. Because this is the New York I believe in, and the New York that I'll fight for every day."
Hochul was called to step-up and replace former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who resigned in August, 2021 in the wake of several women claiming inappropriate behaviors displayed towards them.
She is the first woman in New York history to lead the state.
As we charge into this brand-new year, lawmakers are back in the legislative chambers in Albany for the new session.
Among the top issues for North Country lawmakers include rising costs of day-to-day living and continuously higher crime rates.
