LOWVILLE- A kerosene powered compressor that malfunctioned is to blame for sparking a Tuesday evening fire at a Lewis County area creamery, emergency officials say.
It was shortly after 7:00 p.m. when Lowville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 8040 Willow Grove Road, town of Lowville.
Castorland and New Bremen Fire Departments were called for mutual aid.
Fortunately, fire fighters managed to get the bulk of this blaze under control within 15-minutes of arriving on-scene, according to Lowville Fire Chief, Joe Austin.
When all was said and done, emergency responders noted major damage to the second story and roof of the structure, while there was other fire, smoke and water damage reported throughout.
No one was injured.
Chief Austin says the property is owned by Benuel Stoltzus and despite the damage, it was noted by Stoltzus that the structure should be repairable in the future.
At press time, emergency officials said a kerosene powered compressor malfunctioned and ultimately sparked the blaze.
Members from the Sheriff’s Office, State Police and Search & Rescue all assisted.
