Lake Effect Tech makes adjustments to annual back-pack drive by installing a Chinese Auction Scholarship Fundraiser
LOWVILLE AND BOONVILLE- After 8-years of very successful back-pack drives, Lake Effect Tech is making some adjustments to their annual efforts of reaching out and making a difference for local students.
Although kids will still be able to walk away with a back-pack, owner and event organizer Josh Fitzgerald tells us the emphasis has swayed now to establish a scholarship fund, which will award one student annually from each Lewis County School district, plus Adirondack as well.
"We will also be setting up internships for both our Lowville and Boonville locations," Fitzgerald added.
"This will allow students to receive first hand experience interacting with customers, finding solutions that fit the needs of our clients, while learning responsible use of technology as well as what it takes to be an entrepreneur and the daily challenges of owning an essential small business."
To get this new initiative moving, Fitzgerald is inviting the community to their first ever scholarship fundraiser chicken BBQ and Chinese auction, aimed for Saturday, August 20 at the Lowville VFW Post 6912.
The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with chicken halves ready at around 11:00 a.m. (halves only).
Then coming up the week after, the scholarship fundraiser continues at the Boonville VFW Post 5538 on Sunday, August 28. The event will run during the same time-frame, but will not include a chicken BBQ.
Tickets for the Chinese auction will sell at $10 for each sheet of 25 for both events.
