LCHS Emplpyee of the Year 2024

LOWVILLE- Lewis County Health System proudly announces registered nurse Bettina ‘Tina’ Bates as the 2024 Employee of the Year.

Tina has worked in nursing for over 30 years and is certified in wound care, ostomy care, and diabetic wound management. She worked in the Critical Care Unit for 20 years and spent the last two years providing wound care for acute and long-term care, and the clinics. Tina also assists the Staff Development with clinical education.

“Tina exemplifies our culture of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence,” stated Gerald R. Cayer, LCHS Chief Executive Officer.

“Her compassion and knowledge positively impact the lives of patients and coworkers throughout the health system.”

Tina and the 2024 Employees of the Month (listed below) were honored at the Employee of the Year celebratory event on Friday, February 28, 2025. LCHS staff voted by ballot with the named Employees of the Month for whom they felt deserved the Employee of the Year recognition.

The coworker who nominated Tina as Employee of the Month stated: “Tina goes above and beyond and takes on additional team roles. She is passionate about wound care and cares about the proper healing and care of our patients and residents. Tina establishes relationships with the patient and their family members and is not afraid to use tough love when necessary. Nursing Home residents, family members, and staff respect her knowledge and recommendations and highly praise her interactions. As a result of Tina’s dedication, the facility has seen significant improvements in the healing of wounds.”

According to Tina, “The award was unexpected, and I am honored and humbled to be recognized by my coworkers and the organization. LCHS has amazing people in all the various departments. Every LCHS healthcare team member brings their unique skills and perspectives to the table, which fosters excellent patient care. I am grateful to be a part of such a wonderful group of hard-working people who support each other and strive to give their best to our patients, residents, and community.”

“We are so lucky to have Tina on our team,” stated LCHS Staff Development Coordinator Emily Paulsen.

“I can think of no more deserving person for this honor than Tina. She always provides compassionate care to our patients and residents with their ultimate well-being in mind. She is particularly skilled in training our next generation of nurses and passing on her vast knowledge. We are unbelievably lucky to consider her part of our team.”

The 2024 Employees of the Month were: January – Bettina Bates, RN, February - Madison Compton, Lab Tech Trainee, March - JoEllen LaFontaine, LPN and Keith Bates, NP, April - David Lyndaker, RN, May - Ginny Stogsdill, Sr. Custodial Worker, June - Amber Bailey, CT Technologist, July - Dana Kaler, Ward Clerk, August - Gina Houppert, RN, September - Lisa Widrick, FSH, October - Melia Fayle, Patient Access Clerk, November - Kim Rhubart, EVS, and December - Mary Dunn, LPN.

When she is not making a difference at LCHS, Tina enjoys spending time with her husband, Gene Bates, her son, Tom Anderson, his wife, Cassie, and five wonderful grandchildren.
