
Over 11,000 tickets were issued this year during the annual New York State Police and local law enforcement campaign for St. Patrick’s Day.
Over 560 accidents were investigated during the crackdown, and fortunately none of them resulted in fatalities.
Meanwhile, 239 people in total were arrested statewide for drunken and or impaired driving.
Here in the Troop D Region, Troopers arrested 20 people for intoxicated driving, while issuing nearly 330 tickets for speeding; 26 citations for distracted driving; almost 60 tickets for people violating the state’s seatbelt laws; and 8 tickets issued to drivers for failing to move over.
Overall, there were nearly 1,300 tickets issued in the Troop D Region during the campaign (see statewide statistics below):
- Speeding - 3,680
- Distracted Driving- 337
- Seatbelt violations - 423
- Move Over Law - 161
During last year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement period, the State Police issued 8,662 tickets and arrested 217 people for DWI.
