
LOWVILLE- Public health officials are reporting a pair of Raccoons that have tested positive for rabies in Lewis County.
Specifically, one was reported in the town of Turin, while the other was in the town of West Turin. These results were confirmed by the New York State Department of Health.
According to Lewis County Public Health, there is no known human or domestic animal contact with either of the raccoons.
Rabies is a serious and deadly disease that is transmitted from infected animals to humans, if they are exposed to the saliva or nervous tissue of a rabid animal through a bite or a scratch.
Public health officials stress the importance of ensuring your pets are up to date with their rabies vaccines.
