LCSO: Registered Level 2 Sex Offender jailed for subjecting child to sexual contact in Lewis County

DIANA- A North Country resident, who is already a registered sex offender, is accused of subjecting a child to sexual contact in Lewis County, authorities are reporting.

Joshua K. Vanweort, 28, of Harrisville, NY was arrested last Thursday by the Sheriff’s Office. Vanweort is formally charged with one felony count of sexual abuse in the first-degree, along with one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to investigators, Vanweort is accused of subjecting a 5-year-old child to sexual contact.

The filed charges stem from the town of Diana, authorities said.

The investigation began in early June, while police were also able to utilize new information that surfaced recently.

Vanweort was arraigned and remanded to the county jail, without bail.

Due to a pair of prior convictions, Vanweort is officially registered as a level 2 sex offender.
