New York State DEC officials believe there are somewhere around 700 (plus or minus) Moose currently living within the Adirondack Park.
This is according to various DEC research studies that were revealed in 2018. Dave Kramer, Big Game Unit Research Scientist, believes the population is still holding steady overall.
"Moose rut just like white-tailed deer and so we are getting into that rut period now," Kramer told us.
As of this report, we, the Moose Radio Station and Flack Broadcasting, did not receive any reports of local Moose sightings during the month of September, nor have we received one so far in October.
Based on past records from Mr. George Capron, Moose sightings tend to be most common within our local listening region during the month of September and Kramer says an extended warm period for the end of summer may have kept Moose animals in more secluded and shaded areas.
"Given the low number of Moose we have in the state, it's random chance, right? If you're just lucky enough to see one, so some years you may get a spike early in the season and sometimes you might get one late and that's just luck of the draw."
