CASTORLAND- Emergency responders are investigating what sparked a Tuesday morning blaze that destroyed a garage in Lewis County.
It was shortly before 11:30 a.m. when New Bremen Fire Department was called out to 8727 Van Amber Road, Castorland, NY.
A caller told 9-1-1 dispatchers that her detached garage was up in flames and close to the home. Despite a broken window and some melted siding, the home itself was spared from any further damage.
Although response was swift and efforts were true, firefighters say the garage and all contents within are destroyed.
Castorland and Croghan Fire Departments were called for mutual aid.
The Wormwood family owns the property, according to the Office of Emergency Management.
Although there was no official cause listed at press time, investigators say they are working to determine what sparked this fire. No injuries were reported.
Members from the Sheriff’s Office, Search & Rescue, Fire Investigators, National Grid and New Bremen Town Highway Department all assisted.
