LOWVILLE- The Lewis County Planning Department is recommending the towns of Croghan and Watson navigate through a moratorium process while a Canadian company seeks to establish an energy facility in either township.
Over the winter, word got out that Hydrostor has interest to construct a $2-billion condensed air energy site, which would essentially store and then release energy back into the grid during peak demand.
If approved, the project would be executed in one of those two townships, and for the meantime, that’s why the Planning Department recommends both townships go over their zoning laws to ensure the correct regulations that would protect the town taxpayers, while also assuring public safety.

When this development first surfaced, officials said the company was filing necessary paperwork with New York State, with an ultimate goal establishing an energy facility in the town of Watson (near intersection of Kotel and Number Four Roads), or in the town of Croghan (near intersection of Belfort and Long Pond Roads).
