NEW BREMEN & DENMARK- A North Country area person is accused of scheming to defraud after failing to deliver sheds.
Billy J. Gokey, 47, of Clayton, NY was arrested by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday for one felony count each of grand larceny in the third-degree and grand larceny in the fourth-degree, along with two more felony counts of scheming to defraud in the first-degree.
Investigators say these charges stem from two separate incidents from July in the towns of Denmark and New Bremen.
Gokey, the owner of NNY Shed Builders, is accused of taking deposits from two different customers, but failed to deliver sheds to two separate locations.
Police say Gokey was given months to deliver the sheds, yet allegedly failed to contact the customers in a timely manner.
Following an arraignment, Gokey was remanded to the county jail on $5,000 cash bail.
Charges are refundable to Denmark and New Bremen Town Courts at a later date.
