
LOWVILLE- A local auto shop went up in flames over the weekend in Lewis County.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported by emergency responders. It happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sunday at S&M Auto Sales, 7202 North Chases Lake Road.
Lowville Fire Department was the primary responder on scene.
According to Fire Chief Joe Austin, the first wave of responders encountered a fully involved garage fire. Mutual aid was requested from Glenfield and New Bremen Fire Departments.
When all was said and done, firefighters managed to douse the blaze within 20-minutes. Certain strategies were utilized to carefully tame the flames amidst the presence of nearby fuels within the garage.
An extensive overhaul was executed to ensure hot spots were completely out. The garage and its contents were a total loss, but the property was insured.
A specific cause was not listed at press time, but Fire Chief Joe Austin clarified it was electrical in nature.
