BOONVILLE & LEWIS COUNTY- Governor Kathy Hochul announced this week that more than $64 million has been awarded to 43 projects through the State's Restore New York Communities Initiative.
Locally, the village of Boonville, NY has been allotted $2 million for the former Ethan Allen Furniture plant, which is currently occupied by the Lodging Kit Company.
The goal, according to officials, is to help stabilize the roof, secure the envelope, and create a new light industrial/manufacturing complex before they start fully operating from the facility.
For the time being, their main offices are still on Route 12, but other operations and functions are being executed at the former Ethan Allen Plant.
“While we're just scratching the surface of everything we'd like done at this facility, these funds will go a long way to get us up & running adequately,” the Lodging Kit Company said in a released statement.
Meanwhile just up the road, Lewis County will be awarded almost $1.8 million to abate hazardous materials from the former Lyons Falls School.
The county recently foreclosed on the nearly 24,000 square-foot structure. County officials hope to find a developer that can yield interest for a 16-unit market-rate residential facility, with commercial space incorporated.
“Revitalizing and rehabilitating vacant and blighted areas of our communities brings new energy and investments that support local and regional growth,” Governor Hochul said.
“Restore New York helps our municipalities plan for the future by catalyzing economic growth and supporting housing, businesses and cultural spaces. We are further unlocking the potential of these sites and communities across New York."
