
LOWVILLE- A local resident who crashed into a fixed trail marker this week in Lewis County is accused of felony intoxicated driving, with a child in the vehicle.
Emergency responders were called out to the scene of a motor vehicle crash late Monday night on the West Martinsburg Road, town of Lowville.
It happened right around 11:30 p.m.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, patrols discovered a 2009 GMC Sierra pick-up that had gone off the road, struck a fixed trail marker and came to rest down an embankment.
The alleged driver, identified as Zachary P. Vanpatten, 21, of Lowville, NY reportedly showed signs of impairment during police interviews.
Vanpatten was subsequently taken to the Public Safety Building after failing field sobriety tests. During processing, Deputies said that Vanpatten registered a .16% BAC.
Vanpatten was formally charged with DWI, Aggravated DWI (w/child in vehicle), failure to use designated lane and endangering the welfare of a child.
At press time, police said that Vanpatten was released with appearance tickets and is due to address the charges in Lowville Town Court at a later date.
