LOWVILLE- The village police department is working with school staff members, a student and family members in the wake of a reported threat at Lowville Academy.

This is according to a letter that was published and sent out to parents Monday by the Superintendent of Schools, Rebecca Dunckel.

“We are grateful to the students who reported this information,” the letter states. “This student’s actions reinforce the need for everyone in the community who sees something, to say something.”

School officials say there were second and third-hand accounts that surfaced regarding a student, who apparently was making threats towards the district.

This prompted immediate action by school administrators and Lowville Police was contacted.

According to the letter, police officials are now gathering information from school personnel, the student and the student’s family.

The nature of the threats was not disclosed by officials.

Superintendent Dunckel says the purpose of the letter is to keep parents and the community in the loop regarding any threats that are detected and the safety/security of the campus.

The school district is grateful for the efforts made by local police to address any and all safety needs.
