LOWVILLE- A motor vehicle accident Tuesday evening in the village was caused by a driver who apparently fell asleep at the wheel, authorities say.

It happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. on South State Street, according to Lowville Police Chief, Daryl Ortlieb.

Police investigation suggests that Lisbeth Briot, 70, of Watertown, NY was driving a Toyota SUV northbound when she crashed into a pair of parked cars after apparently falling asleep.

The impact caused Briot's Toyota vehicle to flip and roll over.

Briot was taken to Lowville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She was issued a traffic ticket for moving across hazard markings.

Lowville Fire Department, Lewis County Search & Rescue, Turck's Towing and Wolfe's Body Shop all assisted.
