Published on February 05, 2023

VILLAGE OF LYONS FALLS-A Saturday afternoon fire in Lyons Falls caused heavy smoke damage to an apartment structure on Markham Street. New York State Fire Coordinators said a caller reported that the entire building was filling up with smoke. Upon arrival, firefighters found that all three apartments were filled with smoke and heavy smoke was coming from the eves and roof of the building. The fire was mostly confined to the basement but there was some floor involvement in one apartment, however the fire damage was minimal. The building, located at 4021 Markham Street, is owned by Mark McDonald and is insured. The cause of the fire is under investigation but it is thought to have been electrical in origin. Lyons Falls firefighters received mutual aid from Constableville, Port Leyden, and Turin Volunteer Fire Departments as well as ambulances from Lyons Falls and Constableville. Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputies, Lyons Falls Highway Department, National Grid, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation assisted at the scene. All occupants were safely evacuated before firemen arrived on the scene and there were no injuries.
