WEST TURIN- A local man caught speeding Friday evening in Lewis County allegedly possessed contraband and was driving a vehicle that had plates reported as stolen, authorities say.

Tyler J. Wilkinson, 31, of Lowville, NY is officially charged by the Sheriff’s Office with criminally possessing a controlled substance in the seventh-degree. He is also faced with numerous other vehicle and traffic violations.

Deputies were patrolling Route 12 in the town of West Turin shortly before 8:00 p.m. when they reportedly clocked a northbound 2018 Honda Accord at 72-mph in a 55-mph zone.

Wilkinson was reportedly driving the vehicle when the traffic stop occurred. Investigation revealed the New York plates on the vehicle were listed as stolen.

In addition, police said Wilkinson was driving on a suspended license and contraband was discovered inside the vehicle.

Deputies did not describe the nature of the contraband.

Wilkinson was processed at the Public Safety Building. All charges are returnable to the West Turin Town Court at a later date.
