Man dies from apparent drowning at Southwick Beach State Park

JEFFERSON COUNTY- A man from the Central New York area has died from an apparent drowning over the weekend in the North Country.

It was shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday when emergency responders were called to Southwick Beach State Park for reports of a drowning.

Upon arrival, it’s reported that CPR was being administered to a male who was removed from the water by fellow swimmers.

According to investigators from the New York State Police, the victim has officially been identified as Odonel Archange, 40, of Syracuse, NY.

Archange was taken to Samaritan Medical Center, where he was officially pronounced deceased.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine an official cause of death, although police said it appears Archange has died from an apparent drowning.

Foul play is not suspected as of this report and the investigation remains ongoing.

New York State Police (Lowville), New York State Parks Police and other local emergency responders all assisted.
