Man runs over his own foot in Lewis County ATV accident, Deputies say

TURIN- A man ended up running over his own foot in a Lewis County ATV accident over the weekend, emergency responders say.

It happened shortly before 4:00 p.m. Saturday on Carpenter Road, town of Turin.

The Sheriff’s Office says Vaughn D. Deraway, 60, of Westernville, NY was driving a 2023 CANAM ATV across an open field, near Timberview Resort.

Investigation suggests that Deraway ended up running over his own foot after he failed to negotiate a mud pit. Police said he stuck his foot out to avoid tipping-over and subsequently ran his foot over.

Members from Turin Ambulance evaluated Dereaway on-scene before he was taken to a Utica Hospital.

Turin Fire Department & Ambulance, Search & Rescue and Constableville Fire Department all assisted.
