WEBB- A man from the Western Adirondacks is accused of violating Environmental Conservation Law for cutting down a tree from state land, authorities say.
It was shortly after 1:00 p.m. Saturday when Forest Ranger McCartney was checking the register list at Moss Lake, town of Webb.
While there, the DEC said McCartney began hearing an approaching person on the trail. It wasn’t long until Ranger McCartney spotted a man dragging a freshly cut spruce tree and a saw down the trail.

The man, 58, of Old Forge, NY (no name provided), was witnessed dragging the tree and loading it into his truck.
Ranger McCartney approached the man, interviewed him and ended up educating him about regulations that prohibit cutting trees down on state land, regardless of its potential use for holiday celebrations.
The subject was issued with an appearance ticket. There were no additional details provided via the New York State DEC.
