NEWPORT- A Mohawk Valley area suspect is accused in a Herkimer County sex offense case, according to investigators.

Joshua Bartlett, 49, of Utica, NY was arrested and charged on Thursday afternoon by the New York State Police (Herkimer) for one felony count of sex abuse in the first-degree (contact with victim under 13-years-of-age), along with one misdemeanor count each of sex abuse in the second and third-degrees and forcible touching.

Troopers said these charges stem from a sex offense incident that was reported last June in the village of Newport, NY.

In a separate case this week in the village of Newport, investigators said that Bartlett is faced with another misdemeanor charge of forcible touching.

At press time, police said an investigation was still pending. Meanwhile, Bartlett’s arrest status was listed as held (without bail).

There were no further details provided.
