Mohawk Valley man sentenced to prison time for receiving and possessing child pornography

SYRACUSE, NY- A Mohawk Valley man will spend over a decade in federal prison for child pornography.

Authorities with the U.S.A.O. Northern District of New York say Michael Mayhew, 56, of Rome, NY appeared in federal court Tuesday and was sentenced to 16-years behind bars.

His conviction includes charges for receiving and possessing child pornography. In his guilty plea, Mayhew told the court how he took photographs of a naked child using a mobile phone in December, 2018.

He also confessed to numerous other similar incidents that trace back as far as 1993.

Following his release from prison, Mayhew will be subjected to a 30-year term of supervised release.

The judge also ordered Mayhew to pay a $400 special assessment, a $30,000 fine, along with another special assessment of $5,000 and a child pornography assessment for $17,000.

This case was investigated by the FBI, Oneida County Sherriff’s Office, Rome Police Department, Oneida County District Attorney’s Office, Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, New York State Police, and the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
