Moose Snowmobile Trail Reports for Friday, January 12, 2024
This is the first weekend of the new riding season where the trails have officially been opened.
Unfortunately, conditions have been far from optimal, but local snowmobile clubs are making the best of a slow start and grooming as much as possible.
The National Weather Service is forecasting snow, which appears to rev up starting this weekend and into next week.
Riders are warned to use extra caution and look out for any fallen trees, limbs and other debris that may be leftover from a wind storm this week.
In the meantime if you’re up to ride, here some of the latest reports from out on the trails:

Barnes Corners Sno-Pals: Crews have been out inspecting trails; use caution while riding.
Brantingham Snowmobile Club: Trails were opened as of Sunday; expect early season conditions.
Long Pond Sno Sled Club: No grooming; ride at your own risk where trails are open.
Lost Trail Snowmobile Club: Trails are temporarily CLOSED; check Facebook for updates.
Osceola Snowmobile Association: Most trails were opened this week; conditions vary.
Ohio Ridge Riders: Trails were closed as of Wednesday.
Old Forge/Town of Webb: Fair to marginal conditions.
Penn Mountain Snow Riders: Trails are temporarily CLOSED.
Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders: Grooming is planned; best conditions should be on seasonal roads.
Trackside Blazers: Trails are temporarily CLOSED.
Turin Ridge Riders: Groomers have been out on the seasonal roads; conditions vary.
Valley Snow Travelers: All trails to Lowville and Maples remain CLOSED.
NOTICE: Local law enforcement and snowmobile club officials are warning all riders to obey any and all rules and regulations. This includes, but is not limited to: respecting closed trails and staying off from private property. Police warn to never snowmobile while intoxicated or under the influence of any substance. Watch your speeds and remember to look out for and give right-of-way to groomers on the trails.
