Moose Snowmobile Trail Reports for Friday, January 19, 2024
The second weekend of riding for this season has arrived on the heels of a monstrous lake effect snow storm this week, which punished portions of Southern Jefferson County and parts of Northern Lewis County Tuesday through Thursday.
An officially trained weather spotter for the National Weather Service, who keeps track of daily statistics just northwest of Copenhagen, NY, recorded nearly 50-inches of snow accumulation as of late afternoon Thursday (WOW!).
With heavy sled traffic anticipated over the weekend, officials warn of lingering tree limbs and other debris still left over from the wind storm last-week.
In addition, there are still some reports of lingering water holes throughout the region.

Barnes Corners Sno-Pals: Trails are open; grooming crews have been out.
Brantingham Snowmobile Club: Trails are open and groomers have been out (Mountain Tom Trail CLOSED); watch out for water hazards.
Long Pond Sno Sled Club: Trails from New Bremen to Harrisville are being groomed, with good coverage.
Lost Trail Snowmobile Club: Most trails are open (West Leyden Trail CLOSED) and in good shape; some thin coverage reported.
Missing Link Snowmobile Club: Groomers have been out; Carthage to Belfort remains CLOSED.
Osceola Snowmobile Association: Trails are in “excellent” shape.
Ohio Ridge Riders: Trails have re-opened; Hinckley to Dagenkolb Road was groomed.
Old Forge/Town of Webb: Good conditions reported, with up to 6-inches of packed base.
Penn Mountain Snow Riders: Trails from the barn to Westernville and Steuben were groomed.
Southern Tug Hill Sno-Riders: Trails are open and are in fair to good condition.
Trackside Blazers: Three groomers were out Wednesday night; beware of water spots.
Turin Ridge Riders: Trails are open and remain in good shape, but coverage thins off Tug Hill.
Valley Snow Travelers: Trails from Montague to Tabolts Corners to Flat Rock Inn were groomed Thursday night.
NOTICE: Local law enforcement and snowmobile club officials are warning all riders to obey any and all rules and regulations. This includes, but is not limited to: respecting closed trails and staying off from private property. Police warn to never snowmobile while intoxicated or under the influence of any substance. Watch your speeds and remember to look out for and give right-of-way to groomers on the trails.
