Law enforcement agencies issued nearly 11,000 tickets statewide during this year’s Memorial Day weekend.

Included with that statistic, State Police officials claim that 225 people were arrested and processed for drunken and/or impaired driving.

“The results of this year’s campaign show that too many people are still getting behind the wheel while intoxicated or impaired by drugs,” said New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James.

"This behavior will not be tolerated, and our Troopers will remain vigilant in the removal of these reckless individuals from our roadways. I thank Governor Hochul for her unwavering support in keeping New York’s roadways safe for all who travel them.”

Furthermore, Troopers attended 58 personal injury crashes during the enforcement blitz, but fortunately there were no fatalities.

“New York State has zero tolerance for drunk and impaired driving, and we are doing everything in our power to prevent the senseless tragedies that result from it,” Governor Hochul said.

“Public safety is my number one priority, and we will continue to aggressively enforce our driving laws so that New Yorkers are protected.”

Locally in our Troop D region, the following numbers represent the number of tickets issued and/or people arrested for these various offenses, including: 21 for DWI; 246 for speeding; 31 for distracted driving; 241 for seatbelts and 4 for failing to move over.

In total, over 1,100 tickets were issued in the Troop D region.
