Governor Kathy Hochul has announced nearly $36 million has been awarded to local law enforcement agencies in 21 counties to continue the state’s progress in reducing gun violence.
This funding is part of New York State’s Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative.
Of that funding, nearly $2-million will be split up between the Mohawk Valley ($1,539,256) and the North Country ($448,027).
“I remain committed to working with law enforcement and all stakeholders to ensure safer streets and communities for families throughout every corner of our state,” the Governor said.
The Governor also highlighted that shootings declined 19 percent through August 2026 compared to the same time last year in communities participating in the GIVE initiative.
In addition, shooting victims are now at the lowest level on record since New York State began tracking this data two decades ago, the Governor’s office claimed.
Local to our listening region, Jefferson and Oneida Counties will be receiving this allocated funding.
Jefferson County will see $102,519 between the Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office (another $143,328 will go towards Watertown City Police and another $202,180 for the Probation Department).
Finally for Oneida County, $690,263 will be divided up between the District Attorney’s Office, Probation and the Sheriff’s Department (the remaining $848,993 will go towards Utica City Police).
