New York State Police issued over 19,000 tickets during their first ever statewide Fall Safe Speed Initiative last month.
The campaign ran from September 22 – 27, where law enforcement cracked down on speeding, aggressive driving and violators of the move-over law.
Over 9,300 speeding tickets were given to drivers who were heavy on the gas pedal during this crack down.
Here in Troop D, over 2,100 tickets were given out for all sorts of violations, including 890 speeding and 22 for failing to move-over.
Though this was the first of its kind fall crackdown that did not revolve around a major holiday weekend in New York, State Police figures did note a significant increase in total tickets during the same time frame last year, where Troopers filed just over 12,000 tickets statewide.
