Nearly 21,000 tickets issued during New York’s ‘Speed Week’ crackdown

Nearly 21,000 tickets were issued during this year’s New York ‘Speed Week’ crackdown, authorities say.

The campaign ran from June 12 – June 18, focusing on drivers heavy on the gas pedal.

According to the New York State Police, Troopers issued 10,478 tickets for speeding, 516 for distracted driving, 375 for Move Over law violations, and arrested 172 people for drunk and impaired driving.

State Police also responded to 175 personal injury crashes, including two fatal crashes.

Here locally in Troop D, State Police ticketed 1,176 drivers for speeding, 20 for DWI, 55 for distracted driving, 153 for seatbelts and another 64 who failed to adhere to the ‘move over’ law.

During last-year’s crackdown, State Police issued 22,333 total tickets, including 11,566 for speeding.
