BOONVILLE- Need solar eclipse glasses? Make sure they are certified.

That's what Tyme Ferris says. He heads the Boonville Environmental Conservation Council and they have certified eclipse glasses available for purchase as part of their fundraiser.

You can find some at the Broadway Cafe and Bakery and other select locations as well. For more details, be sure to reach out to Boonville Environmental Conservation Council on Facebook.

Believe it or not, scammers and fraudsters have gone to the low point of peddling fake, or non-certified eclipse glasses. The ultimate difference between a certified pair and non certified pair involves the well being of your vision.

Certified glasses protect your eyes from the harmful light by staring directly into the sun. Non-certified ones do not.

"When watching the partial phases of the solar eclipse directly with your eyes, which happens before and after totality, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times," says NASA.

"Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun."

To tell if your solar glasses are indeed certified, make sure to listen to our latest on-air segment with Tyme Ferris from Wednesday, March 27, 2024:
