NEW: Police identify deceased dump-trailer driver in fatal Rome accident

ROME- An update has surfaced concerning Friday’s fatal dump-trailer rig accident.

On Monday afternoon, authorities from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said the deceased driver in the accident has officially been identified as Michael Lucas, 39, of Turin, NY.

It happened sometime before 9:00 a.m. on the State Route 49 off-ramp for Martian Street. Lucas was driving a dump-style trailer, which belonged to ‘Real Deal Landscaping’ of Cold Brook, NY and was loaded with stone, when he somehow lost control of the rig and rolled it along the guiderail.

The cab ended up coming to rest upside down.

Though an investigation remains ongoing, officials said that speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
