Established back in 2020, scholarship recipients are chosen by school staff members, based on the very exact or similar characteristics that Mr. WBRV himself once possessed, such as a wide involvement with community events and functions.
Past recipients included Isabella Kranbuhl, Rachael Sadlowski, Keaton Nagy, Luke Brach, Caroline Martin, Brett Sanford, and Madison Rooney.
Currently interning at WKTV, Veda plans to further her education starting this fall at SUNY Potsdam, with a major focusing on Psychology.
Veda has a very diverse repertoire of being involved with school and community theatre, while also showing an interest for graphic arts and drawing.
For over 52 years, George capron was the “voice of the North Country,” starting at young age 17 as a local DJ for WBRV working until his passing in October, 2019.
"He was with the community every day sharing our trials and milestones, helping us celebrate special occasions and bringing us local news, weather history and reports," according to a statement released by the scholarship committee.
"His warm laugh and caring nature is remembered by many. He was a lifetime members of many community organizations including the Lost Trails Snowmobile Club, the Boonville Elks Lodge No. 2158, Woodsman’s field days, Boonville Herald and so much more."
George’s love and passion for Boonville and communities beyond will certainly carry on, which is why some of the main criteria for this scholarship fund revolves around community involvement, followed with an interest for media, journalism, weather and broadcasting.
