New York Attorney General welcomes price gouging complaints

ALBANY, NY- With surging cases of flu, RSV and COVID statewide, New York’s Attorney General is inviting citizens to report any store price gouging for painkillers and fever reducers for children.

Letitia James, a Democrat, declared a consumer alert for anyone who witnesses price gouging amidst a national shortage of medication for kids.

“This year’s tripledemic is keeping many kids and babies sick at home, and families trying to care for them are confronting the national shortage of children’s Tylenol and other medication,” she said.

“The last thing any family needs when a child spikes a fever or is in pain is to be price gouged on the medication they need.”

New York law prohibits merchants from basing irrationally high prices for anything vital to the welfare, health and safety of citizens.

As supplies for children’s medication tighten, Attorney James advises parents to only acquire a supply of medication they need and to avoid any kind of stockpiling.
