ALBANY, NY- A statewide drought has been declared across New York as a dry spell continues its relentless grip throughout the Northeast.

Furthermore, over a dozen counties in the southeastern part of the state, including New York City, have been placed under a drought warning.

“Across the state, local water restrictions and educating New Yorkers about how to help conserve water resources are crucial steps to help prevent a more severe shortage until conditions improve,” said Governor Kathy Hochul.

For context, there are four levels of State drought advisories: watch, warning, emergency, and disaster. There are no mandatory restrictions under a State drought watch.

Meanwhile, a statewide burn ban remains active through the end of the month.

Emergency officials are on alert for potential wildfires statewide, where some regions have more of an elevated risk than others.
